Just Ask! Conversation with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor
As part of a virtual visit to the University of Denver, Justice Sotomayor engaged in a memorable conversation with Tracy Vozar, PhD, and Henrietta Pazos, PsyD, about the importance of familial connection through childhood literacy after Dr. Vozar and Dr. Pazos read Just Ask! Be Different, Be Brave, Be You in Spanish and English.
Abby Wambach: Championing Transformation
The Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP) hosted two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA World Cup Champion Abby Wambach for our 2020 signature Redefining Mental Health: A Force for Self & Society event. Abby Wambach talked about the power of teamwork in igniting a game-changing transformation within ourselves and in society.
Military Mental Health Webinar: Moral Injury
In this presentation Wyatt Evans reviews developments in the theoretical and empirical understanding of moral injury. While pointing to gaps and discrepancies in the literature, this presentation will highlight areas of interdisciplinary consensus and discuss implications for conceptualization, assessment and intervention.

Combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) includes many unique features that are not present in most civilian traumas. In this presentation Alan Peterson will review adaptations of prolonged exposure therapy treating combat-related PTSD in the combat theater, in primary care settings, and as part of with intensive outpatient programs.

Environmental factors such as access to lethal means increase the risk for suicide. Learning to practice safety storage and access to lethal means during periods of crisis can be a proven method to reduce risk for suicide or injury for everyone in your home. This session helps identify the risk for suicide in the veteran population, teaches how that risk is associated to access to lethal means and shares skills on how to engage in lethal means safety conversations and strategies to limit risk.

This session provides an overview of elements included in risk assessment and guidelines for performing suicide risk screening and assessments via tele-health. Additionally, it provides best practices for managing acute suicidal crises via tele-health, discuss options for managing suicide risk (e.g., safety planning) and discuss best practices for documentation.

Please join The Graduate School of Professional Psychology’s Military Psychology specialty for a webinar series, in collaboration with the Department of Veteran Affairs Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC).
This talk reviews the prevalence of concerns and challenges faced by military and veteran spouses or committed partners. It describes existing and emerging programs to support spouses to address mental health, higher education, career, relationship and transition support needs. It suggests program supports, policy changes and research that are needed to better support spouses’ wellbeing.
